Technical Support

Primary duties: Technical support specialists assist clients in using computers and other devices. They usually work in a company’s information technology (IT) department and may manage servers, install software, and troubleshoot technical issues that happen when employees have problems with their computers.

They may also offer customer service to home customers who have problems with computer gear or software.

Educational requirements: Some companies hire technical support professionals with a high school diploma or GED and computer skills. Other firms may require candidates to hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely similar field.
